What Is Singlet Oxygen?

Electron configuration of triplet and singlet oxygen

Oxygen-based wellness has become popular in recent years - from oxygen bars to pressurized chambers and home oxygen tanks. Each has drawbacks: high concentrations, time spent inside a chamber, or a bulky tank with tubing and a mask that keeps you tethered to one spot. ZMedic Air takes a different, far simpler approach built around a single molecule: singlet oxygen.

Ordinary oxygen vs. singlet oxygen

The air around us is about 21% oxygen. In its everyday form, oxygen is a stable, relatively unreactive molecule - which is exactly why it can safely make up so much of the air we breathe.

When an oxygen molecule absorbs a small amount of energy, the arrangement of its electrons shifts. The result is singlet oxygen: the same O2, simply in a more energized and more active state. It is short-lived and naturally returns to ordinary oxygen within moments. Plants produce it every day as part of photosynthesis, and it has been studied in science and medicine for decades.

Why the body cares about oxygen

Every cell relies on oxygen to produce ATP, the molecule that powers almost everything the body does - from muscle movement to immune activity and repair. Researchers have explored how very low levels of singlet oxygen may act as a gentle signal, prompting the body's own protective and renewal mechanisms. This concept is known as hormesis: a small, mild stimulus that encourages the body to adapt and grow stronger, much like exercise does.

How ZMedic Air produces singlet oxygen

In most settings, singlet oxygen is created by shining light on special molecules. ZMedic Air's patented method is different. Room air is pushed through a honeycomb-shaped metal plate at the device's outlet; a unique blend of metals reacts with the flowing air and creates low levels of singlet oxygen - without radiation. To our knowledge, it is the only technology producing singlet oxygen this way.

Before the air reaches the honeycomb, it is cleaned by multi-stage filtration and UV light. The result is air that is both purified and freshly enriched.

No masks, no tubes, no tanks

Because ZMedic Air works at low concentrations, you simply spend time in the room where the device is running. There is nothing to wear and nothing to connect - just place it close to where you sit or sleep and switch it on.
